Postal Services
Facilitate Development of Commerce, Better Economy
The G-8
and the World Bank have recognized Africa as the continent
most in
need of development assistance and are actively seeking ways to help
African countries improve themselves. The
Pan-African Non-Governmental Organization for Postal Advancement (PANGO-post) promotes opportunities
for donors in developed countries to invest in the development and
modernization of African postal services.
The postal industry, a well-documented development tool in Europe and
North America, has not as yet achieved its
same potential in Africa.
PANGO-post emphasizes the importance of the
postal industry to the commercial development and social welfare of
our society. In an era where the internet provides an expanding
solution for information sharing, we still rely on paper mail and
couriers to manage the logistical and contractual needs of our
business and personal relationships.
A
postal service, using today's technology, provides an affordable
communications solution for even the most disenfranchised African
communities. It is an essential tool for those working to reduce
poverty, alleviate AIDS, and empower women.
Postal operators
across Africa rely on the
Pan-African Postal Union (PAPU) as a local
means to assist and develop their member postal services. PAPU
currently has 43 member-states. PANGO-post acts as a mechanism for PAPU to access funding, and to provide
hands-on support to PAPU members. We seek significant funding
opportunities to allow PAPU to remain successful in its efforts to
cultivate a locally-managed modern postal system in Africa.
